They took Jesus therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.
As I read this scripture, I realized that the blood of Jesus was shed from the time they arrested him until He died on the cross.
The weapon that killed Jesus was carried on his back, until he could no longer carry the cross. We are told in Matthew 27:24: that he had been flogged by 39 lashes across His back, they made a crown of thorns and set it on his head, spit on Him, and then He was hit on the head again and again. Then they led Him away to crucify Him.
When Jesus being too weak from all he had went through, and was unable to carry the cross the rest of the way we are told in: Luke 23:26 “ And when they led Him away, they laid hold of one Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carry behind Jesus.”
The blood from the cross that Jesus had carried, was now on the back of Simon, as he carried the cross the rest of the way to Calvary.
The scriptures do not say that Simon ever accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. But we do know from scripture that Simon was a very humble man.
